Assessment policy (評估政策)

Formative Assessment

There are six formative assessments per academic year (two before each summative assessment).

  • It is an on-going assessment which teachers conduct continuously to look for specific information about pupils’ progress to inform learning and teaching.
  • It is usually informal and carried out during the learning and teaching process.
  • Assessment activities such as projects, homework, presentations, self-assessment, peer-assessment, lesson observation and classroom performance are used to collect invaluable information for teachers to identify learners’ strengths and weaknesses. Learners can then receive quality feedback from teachers for improving their own learning.

Summative Assessment (Examinations)

There are three summative assessments per academic year.

  • The duration of the exam is 60 minutes. (Pupils with specific learning difficulties would be given extra time upon parents’ consent.)
  • The paper has a wide and adequate coverage of what pupils have learnt. The items tested are within the knowledge and language abilities of the pupils.
  • The assessment papers are contextualized with emphases on form and function, usage and use of language.
  • Each paper consists of at least eight parts.
  • The suggested weighting of question types in G.E. papers is as follows:
